Accountability to be demanded from Eskom in Ward 103
A councillor says power supply issues in the area include critical infrastructure faults left unaddressed for days.
A MEMORANDUM of demands is expected to be handed to Eskom on Thursday, May 21, urging the power utility to act urgently in the ongoing crisis of power supply in Ward 103.
The area’s PR councillor, Mxolisi Khubisa, said the memorandum will be handed over at Eskom’s Westville offices on 1 Langford Road.
Khubisa said the memorandum comes after Eskom’s “catastrophic service delivery failures and the utility’s absolute non-responsiveness to the community of Ward 103”.
“The State-owned power utility has systematically ignored escalating electricity infrastructure faults, leaving households and local businesses across Ward 103 that rely on Eskom power supply in the dark for extended periods without accountability.
“Frustrated by months of silence, residents formally requested a public meeting at the beginning of the year to resolve the ongoing crisis. Eskom management flatly refused to attend.

“Eskom management refused to meet after 18:00, citing internal security policies. Working residents explicitly communicated that 18:00 is the only viable time for community members to gather and voice their grievances. Eskom’s stubborn refusal locks out public participation and shows total disregard for the people of eThekwini,” said Khubisa.
The councillor said the issues pertaining to power supply include critical infrastructure faults left unaddressed for days; local businesses face financial ruin due to unpredictable, prolonged power failures; dark streets heavily compromise community safety, leaving families vulnerable.
“The letter will be demanding the immediate deployment of technical teams to clear the backlog of local maintenance faults and for Eskom to reverse its stance and agree to an after-hours public meeting at a safe, neutral venue chosen by the community.
“The community of Ward 103 will no longer tolerate paying for a service they do not receive while being ignored by Eskom officials,” said Khubisa.
