Pinetown murder, theft case delayed again

The murder case against a Pinetown man accused of killing the mother of his child has been postponed again.

THE murder case in which Sikhumbuzo Zungu stands accused of murdering the mother of his child, Babongile Nkonyeni, last year in Pinetown, was delayed once again at the local regional court on Wednesday (June 3).

The ongoing delays, which, in part, have been a result of Zungu‘s efforts to secure legal representation, have caused frustration to Nkonyeni’s family, who wish the trial would commence soon.

Zungu is due back at the Pinetown Regional Court on June 17.

It is alleged that Zungu murdered Nkonyeni on Sunday, October 26, at about 03:00 at a residence in Pinetown. Zungu was arrested two days later. Zungu faces an additional charge of theft because at the time of his arrest, he was allegedly found in possession of two cellphones belonging to Nkonyeni.

Late last year, Zungu was denied bail by the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court.
