Woman airlifted to hospital after N3 crash
A woman sustained critical injuries in a single-vehicle crash on the N3 Pietermaritzburg-bound carriageway near Key Ridge this morning.
A WOMAN has sustained critical injuries after a single-vehicle crash on the N3 Pietermaritzburg-bound carriageway near Key Ridge, before Cliffdale, shortly after 08:00 today (Monday, September 21).
ALS paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said paramedics found the vehicle lying on its side, with the driver still trapped inside.
“The driver had sustained critical injuries,” reported Jamieson.

Whilst emergency care practitioners worked to stabilise her on the scene, Jamieson said a decision was made to call in the N991 Aeromedical Helicopter to rapidly transport the patient to a Level 1 Trauma Unit facility in the Pietermaritzburg area.
“Paramedics stabilised the driver before she was freed from the wreckage and moved to a safer location at the Hammarsdale Interchange, where the helicopter landed.
“The N991 helicopter touched down, loaded the patient and transported the patient through to the hospital for the further care,” said Jamieson.
He added that the circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear.
