Are prisons still prisons?

Letter to the Editor - week ending 14 November 2014.

EDITOR – I am confused as to the purpose of the accommodation provided by correctional services for their customers (prisoners, prisons, penitentiary and criminals are démodé, not so?)

Being old-fashioned, I thought the purpose was to remove these antisocial individuals from society for as long as possible, for the protection of the law-abiding majority.

Recent events lead me to believe the plan now is to entertain the customers until they can be quietly released, to reduce the burden on correctional services, and tough luck for those on the outside. What do you think ?
