Recycling centre is not a dumping ground

Offender verbally abuses Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association's chairman, Marge Mitchell.

EDITOR – The Keep Hillcrest Beautiful Association is a committee of women and one gentleman who wish to keep Hillcrest looking good. The work we do is voluntary, and our Recycle Centre was initiated by our chairman, Marge Mitchell. We each take turns to do duty there and help the workers, who sort and unpack the recyclables that are left there. It is not a dumping ground.

On 4 January, our chairman was at the recycling centre when a white Range Rover with a NUR registration came to “dump” his junk, which consisted mainly of shards of broken glass. When Marge told him it was not a dumping ground, he had the audacity to reply that it was her duty and to get on with it. I know in this day and age discipline and respect are at a low, but this was totally outrageous. I hope that the offender gets to read this and will make an apology for his abominable verbal abuse to one of Hillcrest’s most respected citizens. This kind of behaviour is intolerable.
