‘Get the billing right’

Pensioner questions his 'higher than normal' Metro Bill.

I RECENTLY received my monthly Metro Bill from the eThekwini Municipality, Revenue Department.

As it seemed to be higher than normal I carefully checked it.

It seems as if the Pensioner Rebate of + – R350 which I have been getting for many years had not been deducted from my bill.

Will all the controversy surrounding the re-valuation of properties, and the lowering of the threshold value from R3000 000, to R2000 000, I was worried that this rebate had been removed.

On calling the Revenue Call Centre, a recorded voice message informed that July’s Pensioner Rebate would be credited in the August bill.

My problem with this is why should all the residents who qualify for this rebate, each have to give the Municipality an interest free loan for a month.

To some pensioners the temporary July loss of R350 can mean a lot of hardship if they are on a limited income

How can a modern Metro not get its billing right, and why were residents not informed via a press release?
