Pipe bursts result in damage, water waste

"A few houses have suffered significant damage as a result of the water gushing through the property and house."

I REFER to the article on page 4 in the Highway Mail dated Friday 19, January: “Ongoing pipe bursts damage Westville road”.

I live in Sunnybrae Drive, Westville North and this has been an ongoing problem for a year now.

There have been 20 plus burst pipes in a 300 metre stretch of Sunnybrae and Duncan Drives over the last year. Often these bursts are at the same place that has just been repaired.

A few houses have suffered significant damage as a result of the water gushing through the property and house. I have written to eThekwini Water Department about this more than once without any response.

Apart from the damage to property and the inconvenience, the bigger issue, in my opinion, is the enormous waste of water in these times of drought and I am sure that it must be cheaper, in the long run, to repair the entire section properly rather than keep repairing each burst.

The road in Sunnybrae Drive is now so badly damaged that is has become dangerous to drive on, yet nothing is being done to fix it.

The quality of the work leaves much to be desired with the mess and rubble from the repair being left on the side for months before it is removed, if at all. I have attached a few photos to highlight the damage to the road and mess left behind.
