There is still hope to fall pregnant

"This rear blood disease called Factor 5 Leiden Mutation causes blood clotting in your veins."

I READ your front page article in the Highway Mail dated Friday, 8 June about Debbie’s struggles with pregnancies and miscarriages.

I also read that she has resigned herself to the fact that she is not going to have any children. I would like to share my story with her that might give her new hope. That is if she wants to try one last time.

It took me 61 years to discover that I had this rare blood disease called Factor V Leiden Mutation which nearly cost me my life.

This causes blood clotting in your veins. I have to take Warfarin for the rest of my life to prevent my blood clotting again. My doctor at the time asked me if I had any brothers, sisters and children which I did.

He told me that this disease was hereditary and everyone needs to be tested. Both my children and some of my brothers and sisters has got it.

He also mentioned that this is dangerous for pregnant women as this could causes miscarriages and babies that are still born.

We also discovered at the time that my daughter had fallen pregnant with her first child. She then mentioned to her gynaecologist that she had this rare blood disease.

The gynaecologist advised her that she had to inject herself daily with Clexane for the full term of her pregnancy. Hence she was blessed with a beautiful daughter.

Hope this information could help a lot of other women as well.
