UPDATE: Family appeals for help after heartbreaking loss
A Queensburgh family is grieving the loss of baby Alyssia, who died on July 26. Born prematurely at 720g, Alyssia spent her life in NICU.
A QUEENSBURGH family is facing another devastating chapter after baby Alyssia, who captured the hearts of many through her courageous fight for survival, died on Sunday, July 26.
Born prematurely on June 12 while her mother, Elaine Dahl, was temporarily in Georgia, Alyssia weighed just 720g after suffering severe fetal growth restriction. She spent her entire life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), where she fought bravely despite receiving specialist care.

Dahl developed severe preeclampsia at 31 weeks of pregnancy, forcing doctors to perform an emergency delivery.
Despite the efforts of doctors and the determination shown by the tiny infant, Alyssia sadly lost her fight.
Alyssia’s grandmother, Traci Brass, has thanked everyone who supported them with prayers, messages and donations throughout Alyssia’s journey.
They are now appealing for assistance once again as they face the unexpected costs of bringing their daughter home.

According to the family, Alyssia cannot be cremated in the country where she died. She must first be transported to Russia for cremation before her ashes can be returned to the mother.
“We know we haven’t updated everyone in quite some time. Unfortunately, little Alyssia passed away on Sunday, July 26. She fought really hard and did her best.
“Our next obstacle is getting her cremated. It is impossible to have her cremated where she is, so she has to be moved to Russia and then brought back to us. We would appreciate all the help we can get,” said Brass.
