THE community is invited to attend the annual St Catherine’s Church Market Day on Saturday, August 29, at the church grounds in Escombe.

The event, which also serves as a fundraising initiative, promises a fun-filled family day with bargain shopping, live entertainment, food and drinks, a tea garden, a kiddies’ zone, and a variety of local stalls.
Parish priest Father Lindelwa Dlamini said the church, which serves a multicultural congregation, hopes the event will bring the community together while celebrating unity and diversity.

“This fundraiser helps us maintain both St Catherine’s Church and St Patrick’s Church in Bellair,” he said.

Both Catholic churches are landmark buildings that are more than 100 years old and require ongoing maintenance.

“The funds raised also enable us to reach out to poor and underprivileged members of the community through our quarterly feeding programmes in Seaview and Queensburgh. We provide staple food to more than 100 people,” added Dlamini.

Event organiser Angelique Krause said between 55 and 60 stallholders are expected to participate.

“We are trying to keep it as local as possible. Visitors can look forward to craft stalls, entertainment, food vendors, a kiddies’ zone, live music, and a tea garden. There will truly be something for everyone, so we encourage the community to come out and support the event,”
she said.

The market will be held at St Catherine’s Church, 442 Main Road, Escombe, from 09:00 to 16:00. For stall bookings or more information, contact Angelique Krause on 084 892 4048.
