Runners take on Christmas challenge

MORE than 1600 runners participated in the Illovo 15km Christmas challenge hosted by the Westville Athletic Club at its club house on Sunday.-

This marathon is a fun event for the runners to celebrate the end of the year in their most festive gear.-

This festive race celebrated its 20th anniversary this year.

The Illovo 15km race is a one lap festival run through the streets of Westville. Although moderately hilly in places the route is balanced with a fair amount of downhill recovery stages. Category winners were awarded cash prizes and all finishers who completed the distance in 2hours 30minutes were awarded t-shirts. –

This race has great spirit with many of the clubs running in ‘buses’ with a floating trophy being awarded to the bus with the best spirit or the bus that is the friendliest. –
