Westville teen wins SA Long Drive Champs

Kyle Waddilove will jet off to compete in the World Long Drive Champs in America.

AN elite group of long drivers gathered at the home of Quantum Driving, Copperleaf Golf Estate, for the South African finals of The World Long Drive Championships. Westville’s 19-year-old, Kyle Waddilove, knocked the competition off the green as he claimed the top title.

Champion earned their spots in the finals by winning the regional qualifying events, and from early on their fans and families gathered to watch the top eight men and top five women in SA battle it out for the championship title and to punch their tickets to the World Finals in the USA.

The total prize purse for the South African qualifiers and finals was R300 000.

In the first match, Kyle beat the Order of Merit leader, Thorne van Zyl and then went on to eliminate Jason Cook in round two.

On the other end of the draw sheet, Francois Mouton beat the ever-consistent Marco das Neves and then continued to eliminate Morne Wolmarans, to face Kyle in the final.

In the semi-finals, Francois, bombed a 361m bomb. Kyle edged Francois in the final with a drive of 345m, and claimed the opportunity to test his metal against the best in the world.

Also heading to the USA to compete in the last chance qualifiers, is Order of Merit leader, Thorne van Zyl.
