Archers right on the mark

Members from The Archer Archery Club at Westwood Mall wowed onlookers with their precise shots at a recent tourney.

THE South African National Archery Association hosted the 13th National Indoor Archery Championship at the UKZN indoor Sports Centre recently.

“This is the culmination of a years preparation for all archers nationally to attain the top three positions in their respective (age and gender) category,” said The Archer Archery Club’s chairman, Zaid Kajee.

Keen archers from far and wide lined up on the range to compete over the three days.

The first day saw half the archers shoot to attain their ranking scores and the following morning the remaining half shot their rounds. That afternoon all archers shot in the elimination rounds until the top four archers remained.

The local team from The Archer Archery Club participated and performed exceptionally well.

The gold medal in the U15 girls category was won by Ammaarah Osman of Westville Girls’ High School

The Silver medal in the U13 girls category was won by Layyah Kathree of Berea West Senior Primary School. Zaid, an accredited World Federation Level 1 Coach, said he was pleased with the team’s performance.

The club trains at Westwood Mall every Friday and Saturday.
