Kearsney rakes in mixed results
The school's hockey team claimed a 2-1 win in the first game of the season.
Hockey
KEARSNEY College took on Northwood in its first hockey game of the season. Both teams played an extremely fast-paced game and provided spectators with an exciting, quality match.
Kearsney gained early control and finally found the back of the net through a good finish from Tiago Marques. Northwood then gained the upper hand in the third chukka.
It was a nail-biting finish as the score was 1 – 1 and there were only seven minutes left on the clock. Kearsney found their rhythm again and controlled the final five minutes and earned a penalty corner and Daniel de Kock claimed another point.
Kearsney 1st X1 beat Northwood 1st X1 2 – 1.

Cricket
As Kearsney College were the provincial winners of the National T20 schools’ competition, after it beat Hilton in the KZN Coastal/Inland final, the team travelled to Tukkies in Pretoria to represent the Dolphins Franchise in the national finals.
The team acquitted themselves well against the best from the other provinces as they played five matches, won three and lost two. They finished fourth overall.

Rugby
Kearsney College hosted Northwood and the visitors’ bulky forwards attacked the defensive line and scored twice. They managed a 12-nil lead in the first 20 minutes of the game. The hosts were stunned but fought back and ended the half on 12 – 12.
Kearsney came out determined in the second half but were unable to convert the opportunities created in the first 10 minutes. Northwood scored next and was answered shortly afterwards with a well-worked try by full back, Trent Coetzee.
The hosts struck again within the next two minutes. The final Northwood try came with a charge down on the scrum half’s clearance kick that was converted. The game ended 24-all.

Basketball
Kearsney’s Ryan Wimbush (KZN U18), Max Hastings-Browne (KZN U18), Zaheer Young (KZN U18 Coastal Schools), Ben Field (KZN U18 Coastal Schools), Matthew Campbell (KZN U16) and Sithe Fuminisa (KZN U16) were selected for provincial basketball teams.
