Shirley Valentine returns

Lisa Bobbert reprises her 2008 role as the bored housewife who flees the nest.

KICKSTART presents a revival of its multi award-winning production, Shirley Valentine by Willy Russell, at the Elizabeth Sneddon Theatre from 11 to 22 September.

Shirley Valentine is a taken-for-granted middle-aged housewife, with indulged children and a self-involved husband who is caught in a menopausal rut.

After a frisky girlfriend wins an all-expenses-paid holiday for two to Greece and invites Shirley along, the two friends embark on a journey. The journey to Greece echoes Shirley’s personal journey of affirmation and discovery, and after a fortnight in the sun, she begins to see the world, and herself, in a different light.

Shirley Valentine is a 1986 Willy Russell one hander play, and a subsequent charming romantic-comedy film with Russell writing the screenplay. Staring in the production is Lisa Bobbert, Pauling Collins, Tom Conti and Julie McKenzie.

Shows start on week nights at 7.30pm, on Saturday 14 September at 2.30 and on Sunday 15 September at 6pm.

Booking for all KickstArt productions is through Computicket (0861 915 800). For block bookings of 10 or more, or sold performances, contact Ailsa Windsor on 0832502690 or editor.goingplacessa@gmail.com.
