Vana sings to the blues beat

Vana is a country blues and folk singer from Irene, Pretoria.

CATCH Vana and the Oh So Serious band at Tina’s Hotel in Kloof on Sunday 15 December at 7.30pm. Bluestockings will be holding its Sunday performance at Tina’s Hotel as there is more parking available there.

Vana has not been to Bluestockings for about three years since the last time he packed out the old Luna Lounge venue, with a special genre of old-school blues that was first heard in the downtown streets of New Orleans in the 1930s. This time he ventures out with a new outfit called the Oh So Serious.

Vana is a country blues and folk singer from Irene, Pretoria. His recent groups include the ‘Oh So Serious’ and the ‘Foot up Folk Trio’ with whom he performs in and around Gauteng. His influences include Hank Williams and The Mississippi Sheiks as well as modern time singers Gram Parsons, David Viner and Leon Redbone.

The Oh So Serious perform with Pretoria locals Rynier Prins (double bass), Rian Britz (accordion), Schulie Van Heerden (mandolin), Pierre Van Staden (blues harp) stringing together songs and standards from the last 100 years in the country blues and folk genres.

Entry is R80 each. There is a gourmet dinner and a full menu at Tina’s Hotel.
