Local songwriter pens a winner

PINETOWN resident, Gershon Muller was announced the winner of One Gospel lyric competition 2013".

PINETOWN resident, Gershon Muller, was the winner of One gospel lyric competition 2013. These awards were launched by Dstv channel 331 to provide a platform for songwriters across the African continent. Gershon was chosen to be one of three finalists selected from more than 300 entries received.

He was competing against Tebogo Makgoro from the North West Province and Lorna Theresa Pottier from Durban.

Gershon is a 25-year-old from Mariannridge. He is a musical director and plays keyboards at Hope Family Church International, which is led by his parents, Edwin and Karen Muller.

Gershon said he has shared a stage with artists such as Dominion, Ernie Smith, Mthunzi Namba and  Patrick Duncan.

Lyricists were invited to write and submit their work in September and the top three lyrics were performed by Mahalia Buchanan, Loyiso Bala and Solly Mahlangu. “My song All for You was performed by Mahalia Buchanan,” said Gershon.

These three songs were released as music videos on One Gospel and as singles across various Christian radio stations as part of their 6th birthday celebrations on Friday 1 November.

Viewers had the opportunity to vote for their favourite of the three songs.

Gershon won R10 000 and the two runners up received R5000 each.
