Callum’s hard work paid off

Callum Myburg is Pinetown Boys' High School, SPAR Star of the Month.

PINETOWN Boys’ High School has chosen Grade 12 pupil, Callum Myburg as the SPAR Star of the Month.

Callum who is also a head prefect for Grade 10 to 12 was selected for the KZN U18 hockey team.

In his Grade 7 year at Benjamin Pine, Callum was inspired by the performance of his school’s hockey team.

Deputy principal at PBHS, Dave Aitken said, “When Callum was in Grade 8 at Pinetown Boys’ High School he took up hockey as a school sport, and after playing two matches for the U14 team, he was selected to play for the 1st hockey team, the team he has played for ever since.

After playing for the Pinetown District Hockey team at the zonal tournament last term, Callum was selected for the KZN Schools’ U18 Impi team, which participated in the Northern Festival in the Limpopo province from 13 to 16 July.

“Callum scored two goals in the five matches he played, one of which was declared the best goal of the tournament, for which Callum received a gold medal.

“In addition to this, he was given a provincial tracksuit, scarf and hockey equipment sponsored by Malik. The KZN team won the whole tournament,” said Aitken.

When he finish school, Callum plans to play club hockey to fulfil his passion for the sport. His motto is “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard”.

Aitken said the school is very proud of Callum’s achievements in all spheres of his school life, and he is the perfect example of the school’s vision of “nurturing fine young gentlemen”.
