NPO puts spotlight on diabetes

Go and have free blood and sugar tests done at Headway-Natal on 22 August from 10am.

HEADWAY-NATAL, 11 Menston Road in Westville, will open its doors to the Highway community on Friday 22 August for its spotlight on diabetes event from 10am to 11.30am.

There will be a tour of its premises as well as a talk by Alexandra Kirkman, a dietician. The nurses from the Life Westville Hospital will also do tests for blood sugar and blood pressure. There is no entry fee.

“It is estimated that about 3.56 million South Africans suffer from diabetes and another 5 million have pre—diabetes. Hear through Alex’s talk more about diabetes, the types, its causes, how it is diagnosed and managed and how it impacts one’s health,” said Ian Vowles, manager at Headway-Natal.

The NPO’s charity shop, book shop and coffee bar will also be open on the day.
