Weird and wonderful boats on Lifestyle Show
Several marquees will be erected around the Durban Marina area for the 13th Durban Boat and Lifestyle Show from 24 to 26 June.
DURBAN’S Marina will once again play host to the 13th Durban Boat and Lifestyle Show from Friday, 24 to Sunday, 26 June.
The Durban Boat and Lifestyle Show is a three-day annual lifestyle event that showcases all sorts of weird and wonderful boats, from affordable inflatable motor and paddle-powered boats to luxurious yachts and catamarans. The show also features exhibitors showcasing the latest fishing, navigational and electronic equipment and more.
It is an event that has been able to successfully establish itself as a major Durban and KwaZulu-Natal event that attracts thousands of local and domestic guests and has directly injected millions of Rands into the local economy.
Show organiser, Barry Meehan, said this year they were excited to have the latest from Riviera, Maverick, Mariner/Tui, Jeanneau, Cap Camarat and Knysna Yacht Company at the show.
“Some of the boats are imported, with the others built locally, mainly down in the Cape,” said Meehan.
The lifestyle section features off-road vehicles and 4x4s, caravans and outdoor equipment, including some amazing outdoor furniture made from scrapped Arab dhows from Tanzania. Destinations also feature prominently, from fishing expeditions in Mozambique and Tanzania to safaris to Botswana and around southern Africa. The show also features a kiddies’ play area, food stalls, free boat rides for kids, a possible place on a racing yacht during the Simply Sailing Regatta on Saturday and Sunday and a whole lot more fun and exciting activities still to be confirmed.
Parking space will be available next to Hakuna Matata Charters, just past the Royal Natal Yacht Club (at the end of the island). Parking will be at a cost of R5 per vehicle and is a donation that will go towards the National Sea Rescue Institute, which is a 100 percent voluntary charity that saves lives on South African waters.
Tickets are R70 for adults and R40 for children over 12 and senior citizens. Children under 12 are free when accompanied by an adult. Tickets will be available at both entrances of the show. Gates open at 9.30am until 5pm on Friday, 24 and Saturday, 25 June and from 9.30am to 4pm on Sunday, 26 June.
