Siblings launch debut CD
The two will launch their first CD to the public later this month.
WESTVILLE siblings, Jeeva Ramaloo and Vani Govender will launch their debut CD on Sunday, 28 August at UDW’s University Hindu Centre.
“Being born and raised in a family passionate about music and listening to both mum and dad singing together with my siblings, aunts, uncles and cousin, my love for music was born,” said Jeeva.
When Vani was six, she was enrolled at the South African Academy of Indian Classical Dance and took part in a host of productions and toured South Africa and Mozambique. Later on in life, she choreographed dances for the Andhra Eisteddfod and the Reservoir Hills Senior Citizens as a hobby. Singing also became one of her passions. “I sang together with Jeeva at satsangs, family functions and the Andhra Eisteddfod,” said Vani.
Their first duet together was at the Andhra Eisteddfod in 1987, where they sang Madhurathi Madhuram, a song that saw them win and now also one of their favourite songs on their CD.
Jeeva, now 64 years old, and his sister Vani, now 56 years old, are excited to be launching their first CD. “At first it was just something we wanted to do for the family and the family then encouraged us to make it an official launch,” said Vani.
The CD’s name is currently under wraps and will be revealed during the launch later this month. It will feature a mix of light south Indian film songs, both solos and duets and took the duo five months to complete. At the launch, Vani will also perform two Bharathanetyam solo dances.
“The show will be hosted in memory of our late mom, Shengamma, and late brothers, Krish and Goney Ramaloo,” said Vani.
Entrance to the event is free and it will start at 2pm with guest vocalists, Preneshan Ramaloo, Wineshan Ramaloo and Luxmi Stars. Contact Vasie Ramaloo on 083 792 8758 or Vani Govender on 072 997 3681.
