To find an ideal winner you must follow Free State

Trainer Wendy Whitehead looks to have a decent sprinter in Free State.

Free State should be able to extend her winning streak to three in the Listed KwaZulu-Natal Stakes over 1000m at Scottsville today.

This daughter of Ideal World has won both her starts and looks to be the one beat in the Listed KwaZulu-Natal Stakes over 1000m at Scottsville on Sunday.

She was the subject of a massive betting coup on debut, backed in from 33-1 early on to go off favourite at 33-10 at Scottsville over 1000m. She did not give her supporters an anxious moment was always travelling like a winner and went on to beat Kingsview by 2.25 lengths.

Her next outing was on the Greyville Polytrack and again she was supported in the betting and went off as the 22-10 favourite. Again she was on a tight hold from the off and went on to win impressively, defeating Regardstobroadway – a winner since – by 2.75 lengths.

She has been out of action since October and that is the only reason for doubt. As a result one need to put some backups into the exotics. Faberge Style is a two-time winner from the Sean Tarry yard and she has run against some good horses. The only concern is that she has not performed as well on turf as she has on sand or Polytrack.

She’s A Fortress has won two of her last three races, both at Scottsville, while Louis Goosen has brought Seventh Symphony from the Highveld to contest this R150,000 race.
