Yesan to star again

The one advantage of contesting a Stakes race is that it does not take the merit rating into account when calculating weights.

The number of wins becomes a bigger issue and that should work in favour of Yesan Star when he contests Race 6 at Flamingo Park today, a Pinnacle Stakes over 1400m.

Trained by Bill Human, Yesan Star cruised to victory in a MR 78 Handicap over the course and distance last time, beating Kingofthemountain by three lengths.

The five-year-old son of Miesque’s Approval obviously impressed the handicappers as he was handed a 4kg penalty for that victory.

But in this event he will carry 2kg less than last time although, of course, he is up in class. An example of his advantage can be shown by looking at Country Gent. He finished 6.50 lengths behind Yesan Star last time but under the race conditions is now 0.5kg worse off.

Kingofthemountain franked the form with a win one week later so from No 3 draw Yesan Star should win again.

Stablemate Seven Kings ran second to Kingofthemountain and looks next best while one does need to have respect for Louis Goosen-trained One Man’s Dream who makes his Flamingo Park debut but is questionable over the distance.
