Kempton Park-based hip-hop artist Martin Kekana, better known as Numi, is ready to make his mark on the music industry with his unique sound and inspiring journey.
Numi’s passion for hip-hop was ignited at age 15 while he was still in high school, coming from a musically inclined family.
Influenced by his uncle, a jazz musician, and named after his late grandmother, Nkomokana, a traditional poet, Numi developed his writing skills from an early age.
His love for hip-hop grew from its storytelling power and its ability to serve as a universal language.
“Hip-hop resonates with us; it’s a news channel for our community and the world,” Numi said.
His musical journey began in high school when he met his friend, legendary hip-hop producer Dubb Mandela, and together they formed the group Positive Neg.
Reflecting on his evolution, Numi said, “As an artist, my journey in the entertainment industry is driven by a deep passion for music, storytelling, and connecting with audiences on a profound level.
“My aspirations are multifaceted, reflecting my diverse interests and talents.”
Numi strives to continuously evolve as a rapper, singer, and songwriter, pushing the boundaries of his creativity.
He aims to create music that resonates with a broad audience, blending catchy mainstream elements with meaningful lyrics that reflect his experiences and perspectives.
His goal is not only to entertain but also to inspire and uplift people worldwide, using his platform to advocate for positive change and cultural appreciation.
Throughout his career, Numi has collaborated with prominent artists such as Priddy Ugly, Big Star Johnson, Thabo Rametsi, Naakmusiq, Blaque Dellz, and Frank Casino.
His aspirations extend to ongoing musical innovation, high-profile collaborations, visually captivating music videos, captivating live performances, and even podcasting.
Beyond his musical pursuits, Numi is known for his approachable and down-to-earth personality.

Numi is working on his upcoming EP, Post Office Love, with the single Street Fighter Love set to drop this summer, accompanied by a music video. The full EP will be released in February, in time for the month of love.
