Kagiso police discovered the body of a 12-year-old boy with his lips cut off in an open veld in Rietvallei.
The gruesome discovery follows a complaint by a member of the community on 3 May.
“Sector police members on patrol received a complaint from a concerned member of the community in Swaneville. They proceeded to the scene of crime which is situated between Swaneville and Rietvallei. Upon arrival at the scene they found a witness who then showed them the body of the boy lying in an open veld,” Kagiso Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Solomon Sibiya said.
Solomon told the News that the boy, who is from Orlando in Soweto, frequently visited his aunt who lives in Kagiso and was known to leave without saying a word.
When the boy went missing from his aunt’s house on Saturday, they did not think anything strange of it and assumed that he had gone back home as he has done before.
Little did they known that he became the victim of a brutal crime.
The boy sustained an open wound to his right cheek and his lips were removed.
Although the motive for the murder is unknown, Kagiso police are investigating further.
Unconfirmed reports suggest the murder may have a muti-ritual motive.
