A body was found on the banks of the Magalies River by police on Monday, 16 May.
The body of a 50-year-old man was discovered at about 10am, when police investigated a suspicious-looking vehicle parked in the vicinity.
“According to the first officers on the scene, they had received a compliant about a suspicious vehicle which had been stationary there for a long time. Upon their arrival they found the vehicle abandoned and unlocked,” police spokesperson, Constable Rebecca Phithi, said.
Police started searching the area, hoping to find the owner of the abandoned vehicle. During their search, they discovered the body on the river bank.
The man, who was found to be from Soweto, was identified by family members.
“A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death,” Phithi said.
