Drowning: you can prevent it!
Drowning occurs every day and especially over the festive season.
The Christmas break is just a blink away, and some people are already dreaming about the sand between their toes and the sea water over their heads, or just relaxing next to a pool or dam for a couple of days.
Unfortunately, all these dreams must include some thought about drowning and how to prevent it.
Drowning occurs every day, and especially over the festive season. Even the best swimmers are at risk of drowning. It is advisable to keep the following tips in mind when spending time close to any kind of water over the festive season:
• Know what to do in an emergency
• Learn to swim if you don’t know how
• Refrain from consuming alcohol while swimming or when you plan to swim
• Always make sure that children are supervised
• Do not ever swim alone
• Learn how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• Always swim in designated areas
• Wear a life jacket if you feel uncomfortable
• Be alert
You never know when you might need to help someone in need.
