Horror head-on collision leaves one dead

Earlier reports indicated that several people were trapped in both wreckages.

A serious collision on the R41 caused heavy delays throughout Witpoortjie earlier this morning (22 November). The collision occurred at about 5.20am and the road was closed shortly afterwards.

The collision happened near Impala Avenue, Witpoortjie. It is believed a taxi and a bakkie collided head-on after the taxi driver allegedly overtook another vehicle, crossing a solid white line and encroaching on the oncoming lane in the process.

One person was declared dead on the scene, while nine other were seriously injured.

Earlier reports indicated that several people were trapped in both wreckages. The deceased, who is believed to have been the driver of the bakkie, was also trapped within the wreckage.

All the injured were stabilised on scene and transported to various hospitals in the area for further medical care.

Motorists are advised to avoid this area as it is not yet clear whether the road has been reopened However, motorists can expect delays on all alternative routes.
