Hospital rat a complete hoax, says patient

"I was greatly surprised. The rat made headlines without any evidence of droppings, sightings or noise."

Recently, a woman claimed that a rat had run over her while she was a patient in Netcare Krugersdorp Hospital. However, many other patients denied these claims and said the entire story is a hoax.

Ivy Truter, another patient, claimed she was lying in a bed close to the woman who said the rat had run over her. She said she was in the ward the entire time the woman was there and she did not hear any screams.

“Only one bed separated me and that woman,” Truter said. “To me, it is shocking to read about these allegations Pieter Vaughan made based on hearsay.”

Truter said she did not hear any noises throughout her stay. “I was awake when I saw her going to the toilet one day, but she returned quietly to the bed.”

She also said the claim the woman made that she was bitten, only surfaced the next day when pest control staff searched for evidence of this notorious rodent.

“I was greatly surprised. The rat made headlines without any evidence of droppings, sightings or noise.”

Truter said she can only praise the staff of the hospital for the manner in which they handled the situation.

“To me, the hospital is clean and the staff members are efficient, caring and friendly.”
