Councillors put on the spot: Introducing Mark Trump

Democratic Alliance Mogale City candidate councillor Mark Trump answered a few of the News' questions in light of the upcoming local government elections.

Democratic Alliance Mogale City candidate Mark Trump, 41, answered a few of the News‘ questions in light of the upcoming local elections.

1. Which ward/ areas are you running for?
“Ward 20 which includes Krugersdorp CBD, part of Krugersdorp North, Krugersdorp Western Ext and Olivana.”

2. If you were elected, what would you focus on and why?
“Creating a united culture of all law-abiding residents of the ward. My job will be to serve with full transparency and fairness. I would prioritise issues of safety and security, and the neglect that has been plaguing the CBD infrastructure for so long. It is my personal goal to see Krugersdorp CBD operating to its full potential; from thriving businesses and job creation on to a flourishing tourism and hospitality industry all within a vibrant market economy.”

3. Why should the community vote for you?
“Because I have a strong dedication to serving and doing so with loyalty and integrity. I will walk the walk and assure voters that I’m here to focus on real needs and honestly respond to issues with due diligence resulting in sustainable solutions. It will be my primary duty to keep my residents’ concerns a priority.”

4. Outside of your council duties, how are you involved in the community?
My dedication is to people and the welfare of animals. I always assist where I can, such as with fundraising, the CPFs and animal shelters. I have served on the Sector 7 CPF for almost a decade, twice as patrol coordinator, and will continue to support all CPFs within Krugersdorp as they play a major role in keeping our communities safe. Currently I am establishing a victim empowerment group with specialised focus on domestic violence and GBV cases.

5. What past experiences make you uniquely qualified for this role?
“I got involved in the DA in Florida in 2005 as an activist. I later sat on the Ward 21 committee (2014) and served as Branch Vice Chair for Ward 22 (2017). I worked in the Rustenburg Local Municipality as a land revenue auditor for four years, and acquired invaluable experience in dealing with billing issues as well as understanding municipal structures. I believe this will stand me in good stead when confronting such issues which are endemic to Mogale City.”

Lynette Zwankhuizen.

Current Ward 20 councillor Lynette Zwankhuizen who will be stepping into the role of DA Proportional Councillor said, “I’m truly honoured to endorse Mark as the DA candidate. He’s a dedicated, hardworking and dynamic young leader who shares the same passion for service delivery excellence as I do. In handing over the baton to Mark, I believe he will continue to find lasting solutions to outstanding issues, some of which are of a very complex nature and take longer than a five-year term of office to bring to finalisation.

You’ve been a councillor before. What have you achieved during your time in office?
“My vision was to serve all residents in Ward 20 ethically and equitably. I pride myself on responding timeously to all residents’ needs within the unique municipal context of Mogale City, and achieving sustainable solutions to most issues ranging from accounting errors, infrastructure problems, safety and security, etcetera. I believe my successes have always shown regard for accountability to the voters and that my sense of responsibility to high performance is unwavering.”
