Rand Water has announced the conclusion of its 54-hour planned routine maintenance during which the B11 and B19 pipelines were connected.
This formed part of the Rand Water Augmentation Project and will allow for an increased supply of water to various districts including the West Rand.
The completion of the activity saw the two valve rigs installed to cross-connect the B5, B11 and B19 pipelines,” confirmed Justice Mohale, Rand Water communications representative in a media statement on Wednesday, November 17, preceding a media briefing by Sipho Mosai, Rand Water CEO scheduled for later in the afternoon.
After the announcement of the planned pipeline shutdown earlier in November, residents in general were worried that they would be without water from November 15 to 17.
Rand Water clarified in a statement on November 9 that, “The term ‘shutdown’ is a technical phrase which has been used over the years to describe a section of the system that may/ will be affected by maintenance. During this period, water will be flowing into the system although this will be at reduced quantities and pressure.”
Thankfully, Mogale City was not affected by the shutdown and did not experience a shortage of water or low water pressure.
