Mayor gets his hands dirty for Mandela Day

Mayor Lucky Sele and volunteers conducted a clean-up in Rietvallei for Mandela Day.

On the morning of Thursday, July 17, Mogale City Local Municipality (MCLM), along with volunteers led by Mayor Lucky Sele, were spotted cleaning up parts of Rietvallei as part of their Mandela Day initiatives.

The campaign stems from Mogale City’s objective to make the city cleaner and address various service delivery issues.

According to Sele, the initiative is called Kleana Manje and serves part of the Department of Integrated Environmental Management’s environmental programme that seeks to empower residents to take ownership of their neighbourhoods, promote sustainable living and take a stand against illegal dumping and environmental degradation.

This is followed up by the educational outreach programme that was held in Kagiso Ext 11 on June 26, where residents were equipped with valuable knowledge on key environmental issues, which also include dangers of pollution, proper waste disposal and responsible community practices.

“This hands-on approach will also introduce the ‘Adopt a Spot, Take Ownership’ Programme, calling on residents to maintain cleanliness and sustainability in their communities,” Sele said.
