Mogale City expands smart meter conversion to more homes
Mogale City extends its smart prepaid meter rollout to postpaid users – here’s how to qualify and apply.
The rollout of smart prepaid electricity meters has been extended by Mogale City Local Municipality’s (MCLM) Energy Services to now include residents currently using postpaid meters.
MCLM communications officer Refilwe Mahlangu said the conversion is free, however, the following conditions apply:
• The resident’s municipal account must not be in arrears
• If the account is in arrears, a formal payment arrangement must first be made with MCLM’s Credit Control before submitting a conversion application
• 30% of the value of each prepaid voucher will automatically be deducted and credited toward the arrears for accounts with outstanding balances. These deductions will continue until the debt is fully settled and are in addition to any existing payment arrangement with Credit Control
• The customer must sign a deduction rate agreement confirming this arrangement

She added that once MCLM receives a valid application, an on-site assessment will be conducted to confirm that the meter’s infrastructure is outside the property boundary and housed in a locked kiosk for security and accessibility.
“Once your application is approved, an appointment for the conversion will be scheduled,” Mahlangu concluded.
