Spreading joy with sweet Easter gifts

Africa Food for Thought (AFFT), a West Rand-based non-profit organisation, received more than 3 400 Easter eggs from Weltevreden Park Primary School.

In a heartwarming act of generosity, Weltevreden Park Primary School (Welties) donated an impressive 3 432 marshmallow chocolate eggs to Africa Food for Thought (AFFT), a West Rand-based non-profit organisation dedicated to feeding children and families in need.

The Easter eggs were distributed to over 55 early childhood development centres and 30 families supported by AFFT, reaching almost 3 000 children who rely on the organisation for daily meals. While AFFT’s core mission is to provide nutritious food, the annual Easter treat offers a sweet surprise that lifts spirits and brings joy.

“Our promise to the families and centres we support is nutritious food, but now and then we can provide a treat like these Easter eggs,” explained Claire Rosewarne, a long-serving volunteer and member of the AFFT management committee.

We try to label each egg with a message of hope or encouragement. The kids just love them.”

The initiative is not only about the recipients, but it also provides a meaningful opportunity for volunteers and schoolchildren to get involved. Volunteers colour and decorate the labels for the eggs, making the event even more special.

Welties has been a long-standing partner of AFFT, often going beyond the call of duty by hosting civvies days, collecting non-perishable food items, and raising funds for the organisation’s ongoing work.

“It’s a great time in a child’s life to learn how important giving is,” said Claire.

“We believe it is vital for our children to know that they can make a difference in the lives of others. The collective effort of many small acts can have a big impact. We’re sometimes more easily remembered for the annual chocolate deliveries than the monthly food deliveries,” Claire expressed.

But this donation once again made it possible to bring joy to the children we support.”

AFFT invites other schools and individuals to join the mission and help make a difference. With 14 years of service under her belt, Claire is confident that any contribution, big or small, has the power to change lives.
