New adventure sport sweeps the nation
On 26 November at the Baltic Silo at an old Krugersdorp mine, on the outskirts of town, an Airsoft Charity Game, Wings of Mercy, will be hosted.
The latest group sporting craze taking the country by storm is Airsoft Games.
Airsoft is a much more advanced version of paintball, which focuses on raising the realism levels exponentially over its rivals.
Airsoft team building is designed with regard to drills and systems.
Airsoft consists of accurately reproduced weapons, more strategy and tactics, teamwork and creativity.
It is an honour-based sport where almost anything goes – just as in real war.
On 26 November at the Baltic Silo at an old Krugersdorp mine, on the outskirts of town, an Airsoft Charity Game, Wings of Mercy, will be hosted.
The cost to participate in this event consists of two parts – a donation of non-perishable or canned foods to the value of R100 or more (with a till slip to prove the cost), plus R60, which is being charged to control the number of entries on Quicket, and to provide each participant with a Velcro-backed Wings of Mercy patch. Without the donation, the entry fee will be R200 in cash, payable on the day of the event.
The donated foodstuffs will be handed over to Africa Food for Thought (AFFT) – a non-profit organisation run by volunteers, which focuses on equipping and supplying school feeding programmes.
The organisation feeds nearly 16 000 children on most school days. It supports 13 schools, mostly primary schools, 14 crèches, and more than 140 orphaned and vulnerable children (OVCs), mainly on the West Rand and in Soweto.
The military-type patch, which is a collectors’ item, is a token of appreciation to those who help the AFFT organisation on the day.
