Motokids make their marks

Riders from all walks of life and from the age of two made their way to the tracks and revelled in the dirt.

Local mini-motorcyclists had the time of their lives during Dirt Bronco’s Motokids event.

Sunday, 26 March was a chilly summer day, but the children’s excitement was almost tangible and made up for the lack of warm weather. There were many riders, although fewer than usual.

Eddie Wantenaar, owner of Dirt Bronco, did an excellent job of making sure the tracks were safe and well prepared for the young racers.

Riders from all walks of life and from the age of two made their way to the tracks and lined up to make sure they too had a chance of winning the races.

Neil van der Ross, a teacher at Motokids, said the number of parents who entered their children into the programme was encouraging.

“The kids started the day by racing the enduro event,” said Neil. “The four laps they did was sufficient to deplete their reserves. Some wanted more, but that would have drained them for the next race. The motocross format was one practice heat and two race heats.”

No serious crashes were reported during the event in which lots of new faces participated.

The Red Bull KTM team’s presence concluded the event. The exhibition race laps they did were very exciting for the children, who later got the opportunity to meet some of the greatest names in Northern Regions Motocross.

The team handed out signed posters and took pictures with the kids, and conducted the prize-giving ceremony.
