Proud son receives golfing award on behalf of dad

Arthur Stewart, a deceased golf player from Krugersdorp, was recently inducted into the Southern African Golf Hall of Fame due to his prestigious performances between 1954 and 1980. This reputable award was received by his sons, Allan and Clive, as Arthur passed away prior to the event.
The extravagant event took place in Plettenberg Bay on Wednesday, 5 April and proved to be just what the Stewart family needed, as it reunited Arthur’s children who in turn celebrated his incredible life. “He was one of the most hardworking people I’ve ever come across,” said Allan.
“Every night after he came home from work, he would set up his golfing gear and hit a few balls.”
Like other amateur golfers, Arthur remained a working dad while using his free time to play golf. “He didn’t seem to want to become a professional golfer. But I must add that I’ve never seen a person who could hit a golf ball as hard as he could.”
Arthur was also a great father to his children and loved golf so much that he gave free lessons for young golfers just to carry on the love he had. He was part of the Krugersdorp Golf Club and his discipline is described as being almost tangible. “Although the secret of being a great golfer is to start very young – as young as 3 or 4 years old – my father only started golfing when he was about 20. However, his constant practising and dedication made him catch up all those years.”

• Inter-Centre Team (Tvl A) 1958
• East Rand Amateur 1959
• W Transvaal Matchplay 1961
• Mozambique Amateur 1968, ’73, and 2nd in 1969
• Transvaal Amateur Stroke Play 2nd
