A year after Brad Binder’s championship win

His next race will be on the 2nd of June in Mugello.

Exactly one year ago, Brad Binder, the Potchefstroom-born but Krugersdorp-bred racer, participated in the Moto3 World Championships in Mugello, Spain, where he took his third consecutive win.

Brad Binder is the first ever South African to win a Grand Prix in the lowest cylinder class, and the first South African to win a Grand Prix in any class since Jon Ekerold won the 350cc race back in 1981.

Today, Brad is best known for winning the 2016 Moto3 World Championships.

Brad said he grew up with motorcycles and inherited his love for the sport from his father, who is also a “bike fanatic”.

In 2004, the then nine-year-old Brad started off on four wheels, when he won the South African 50cc Kart Championship.

His younger brother, Darryn, has followed in his footsteps and they shared the Moto3 track in 2015.

After winning the Moto 3 championships, Brad moved on to race in the Moto 2 2017 World Championships.

But his preparation was severely hindered after he broke his left arm in a crash during testing at Valencia last November, requiring surgery and ruling him out of another test at the same venue in February.

His next race will be on 2 June at the Mugello circuit.
