Khosa Club makes history

This was a dream came true for the club.

The well-known Khosa Sports Club recently made history when its newly erected rugby poles were revealed.

During the revealing, not only the new poles were celebrated – Mothers’ Day and the players and the people who run the club on a daily basis were also honoured.

The Junior Rugby players were also blessed with two kitbags which will be raffled as part of the fundraising for additional items of kit. These items will be handed out to the players in June.

Sune Steenkamp, a Grade 7 learner with many talents, designed the bag. The bag can hold a hockey stick, a tennis racket, and a rugby ball, all at once.

After a long process of discussions and arrangements, the Junior Rugby Committee, under the guidance of Quinton Snyman, celebrated their first Friday practice with the new poles. Their installation has proved that commitment, dedication and promises can be fulfilled if one puts one’s mind to it. Quinton initially started the negotiations and arrangements for the rugby poles under the leadership of the club’s former chairperson, John Wanliss.

Today the club has become a sports club which is non-racial, non-sexist and caters for the whole family. The membership is growing fast, and includes purely social members taking part in rugby, hockey, cricket and road running.

The junior rugby has taken the club by storm and it has become evident the boys are enjoying themselves so much that parents find it difficult to drag them away from the field.

Quinton reached out to Krugersdorp High School and Dave Dauncey, who were very helpful in making the club’s dreams come true.

Khosa Junior Rugby would like to thank Khosa Sports Club for allowing the juniors to form part of the wonderful history of the club. They would also like to thank Krugersdorp High School’s principal Ivan Bailey, Mr Van Blerk, Mr Botha, and most importantly Dave Dauncey and his ground staff, for their support and for supplying them with the poles that have been planted and now form part of a brand-new start for the club.

The club would also like to thank John Dory’s restaurant in Cradlestone Mall, not only for their great financial sponsorship, but also for keeping the parents entertained with vouchers and the players thrilled with wonderful gifts.

The club feels that the new poles are just the beginning of remarkable memories to be made in the future.
