Krugersdorp Bowling Club rolls to medal success

The tournament brought together top district bowlers, with Krugersdorp players earning medals across several divisions.

Krugersdorp Bowling Club (KBC) recently hosted the Sables Masters Tournament, where veteran bowlers and clubs gathered to showcase their skills and tactics on the greens.

According to KBC spokesperson David Parker, the Sables Masters is a prestigious, invitation-only lawn bowls tournament hosted by the Sables Bowling Association, which serves the West Rand of Gauteng and Rustenburg.

He said the tournament features elite men and women competing in Open, Veteran and Invitational categories to determine the top bowlers in the region. The Masters represents the highest level of district competition, highlighting skill, composure and tactical play on the greens.

Top performers in the district tournament often qualify to represent the Sables at the highly competitive national Bowls South Africa Masters and Inter-District events.

“It was a real pleasure to watch all three of the divisions. The standard of play was high and delivered good morale and sportsmanship from all teams and players competing,” said Parker.

He added that the club collected 12 medals, with Martin Janse winning gold in the men’s open division and Leila Snyman claiming gold in the women’s open division. Club president Andrew Selby was also praised for hosting the tournament and ensuring it was well run and organised.

Other results saw the club claim bronze in the men’s veterans division, with Johan Crawford and Japo van Deventer winning bronze in the invitational men’s division.

The club looks forward to continuing to represent Krugersdorp in the Sables district and aiming for more gold medals in future competitions.
