Alma Mater impresses at international tournament

Alma Mater’s netball and soccer teams impressed at the pre-season tournament, earning awards for discipline, talent and standout performances.

Alma Mater International School has earned a prestigious accolade – they were awarded the Most Disciplined School for sportsmanship at the recent International School of South Africa Netball and Soccer Tournament.

The school’s soccer and netball teams displayed their skill and team spirit at the tournament, earning multiple other awards for both on-field performance and team discipline.

The school hosted several private and public schools, with competitions mainly in soccer and netball. The tournament served as a pre-season event, helping top schools prepare for the season ahead.

Alma Mater’s first netball team finished second overall after a competitive semi-final and final series.

According to netball coach Anrike Combrink, the school participates annually to strengthen team building and prepare players for the season. Learner Inthira Khejornist also received the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.

The boys’ first soccer team pushed hard but narrowly lost to The King’s School Linbro Park. Despite the loss, head of sports Elton Christie said the teams remain optimistic about the season ahead.

“We compete in major school tournaments such as the Discovery League and the HeronBridge Standard Bank Festival,” Christie said.
