Councillor’s car damaged by fire

The Greater Tzaneen Municipality councillor’s car was partly damaged by fire in the early hours of Friday.

The damage to Councillor Dodo Mushwana Mercedes Benz C Class is estimated at about R200 000.

Mushwana said he was woken by a car alarm and went outside to investigate. “I found the car burning on the front and at the back. The fire was too strong. It looks like an inflammable substance has been poured on the vehicle before it was set on fire,” said Mushwana.

Mushwana who is a proportional representative for the ANC’s car was damaged a day after eight suspected criminals believed to be members of Boko Haram and K9 gangs were apprehended by the community and handed over to the police.

This after the community members this week embarked on a search for criminals who have been terrorizing residents of Nkowankowa, Dan, Lusaka and Bambamencisi villages for the past weeks.

Police spokesperson, Warrant Officer Seth Magadzi confirmed that a case of malicious damage to property has been opened for investigation and no arrests has been made at the time of going to press.

Magadzi could neither confirm nor deny that the incident is linked to the arrest of members of criminal gangs in the area.
