Two dead in R71 crash

Two people died when the bakkie they were travelling in was crushed under a truck on the R71 on Friday night.

ER24 reported that paramedics found the Nissan 1400 bakkie partially under the truck with one of the occupants still trapped inside of it.

“The trapped passenger sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead.

On further assessment they [paramedics] found two other occupants that were ejected from the vehicle during the collision. One of the occupants ejected also sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead, the other sustained moderate injuries.

“The ejected passenger with moderate injuries explained to paramedics that they were traveling in the bakkie with a trailer when the collision occurred.

According to the passenger, one of the deceased was a hiker they had picked up along the road.”

The driver of the truck was not injured in the incident and was only in shock.

The incident was handed over to the local authorities on the scene to determine the exact cause of the accident.
