Rodney Wall wins Drakensig Open trophy

Drakensig Golf Club captain, Rodney Wall took home the 2022 Drakensig Open trophy on June 11.

34 players teed off in the Open with golfers from Tzaneen, Mooinooi, Phalaborwa and Polokwane competing against the locals from Drakensig Golf Club for the title.
Niko Koster from Tzaneen Golf Club and Gregg Janse van Rensburg from Drakensig Golf Club were tied in first place after the first round, both totalling scores four above par. Tzaneener Luan Steenkamp and Wall was tied in third place scoring six above par. In the first round Wall had an unfortunate triple bogey on the third hole but made up for it by scoring birdies on the 6th, 15th and 18th holes.

Louis Erasmus from Tzaneen Golf Club was tied in fifth place with Walter Senyane from Mooinooi Golf Club, both scoring +7.
In the second round, Wall put up a stellar performance to seal his win by scoring just one over par with birdies on the 1st, 6th and 8th holes bringing his total for the two rounds to seven over par.
Drakensig local, Janse van Rensburg who was in the joint first position had a tough second round scoring twelve over par with bogeys on holes 2, 10, 13, 17 dropping him down to the overall sixth place.

The monthly medal winners for June at Drakensig Golf Club are Owen Grobler (A-division), Craig Coltham (B-division) and Trevor Millar (C-division.)

Nico Swarts, also from Drakensig Golf Club scored +10 in the first round and performed better in the second round scoring five over par to take the fifth overall position with a total of 15 over par.
Mooinooi representative, Sanyane took fourth place overall scoring six over par in the second round bringing his total to +13.
Erasmus took third place overall scoring +5 in the second round for a total of twelve over par.

Tzaneen Open champion, Luan Steenkamp had to be satisfied with second place after a much improved second round scoring three over par, bringing his total for both rounds to +9.
Koster, who lead the pack with Janse van Rensburg in the first round, scored +14 in the last round bringing his total score to +18 to take the seventh overall place.

Ryan McGuirk totalled +20, scoring ten over par in both rounds for the 8th place overall. Drakensig local, Paul Pretorius and Polokwane representative Mmemezi Dlamini were tied in ninth place with each totalling 21 shots over par.
Adam Milanzi from Polokwane and Bertus Myburg from Drakensig Golf Club were tied in eleventh place overall, totalling +22 shots over par.
The Drakensig monthly medal competition took place recently with Owen Grobler winning the A-division. Craig Coltham took first place in the B-division and took the prize for the best net of 69. Trevor Millar won the C-division monthly competition.
