Anglers spoilt with splendid spring fishing
Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy two September events in the Lowveld, including a Klaserie Dam competition and Blyde River expedition.
HOEDSPRUIT – Fishing enthusiasts from across the Lowveld are gearing up for two angling experiences, including a full-day fishing expedition on Saturday, September 13.
In the first event this Saturday, September 6, Southern Cross Schools will host a competition at the Klaserie Dam. The event is in support of conservation, and anglers can throw their line into the water for barbel, carp and bass in a catch-and-release format. Entry is R150 per angler, excluding entry into the dam.

In the second event on Saturday, September 13, a fishing expedition, hosted by Angling Adventures, promises a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and camaraderie, set against the backdrop of two Hoedspruit dams and the Blyde River.
The expedition will run from 05:30 in the morning until 17:30, giving participants a full day to enjoy one of South Africa’s favourite pastimes.
It is open to experienced anglers with years of practice or to newcomers keen to cast their first line.
The organisers say they have selected the venues carefully to ensure an excellent chance of landing some of the region’s most sought-after freshwater species. Bass, tilapia, yellowfish, and catfish are all on the list of target catches for the day.
To make the experience more accessible, bait for tilapia and catfish will be provided, and guides will be on hand to share expert tips and assistance throughout the trip.
For R1250 per person, the package offers not only professional guidance but also includes lunch, snacks, and cold drinks. “It is about more than just fishing,” said trip coordinator Quintin Coetzee.
“It is about spending time in nature, enjoying the peace of the outdoors, and sharing that with friends, family, or even fellow fishing enthusiasts you meet on the day.” For more information, contact Quintin at 071 219 3394.
