Rhino Warrior Challenge pushes limits for a cause

Adventurers braved mud, paintballs, and tough obstacles at the Rhino Warrior Challenge near Hoedspruit, raising funds for anti-poaching efforts.

HOEDSPRUIT – Adventure seekers recently put their endurance to the test at the Rhino Warrior Challenge at Protrack Camp and Thirsty Giraffe Pub and Grill.

Organised in partnership with the Protrack Anti-Poaching Unit, the annual obstacle race raises money and awareness in the fight against rhino poaching.

Participants faced a gruelling course of running, climbing, crawling, jumping, and mud-filled obstacles, with some challenges reaching heights of up to 10m and even featuring flying paintballs.

The event was open to anyone aged 15 and older, with proceeds going toward supporting anti-poaching operations in the region.

Two race categories tested competitors’ stamina and teamwork. In the Rhino Warrior Team Race, teams of four tackled a 5km course. The Ultra Rhino Warrior was a 15km course for individuals or teams of two.

Runners were released in staggered intervals from 06:30, creating an action-packed morning filled with sweat, mud, and determination.

“The Rhino Warrior Challenge is more than just an obstacle race. It’s a true test of strength, teamwork, and resilience.

Watching participants navigate mud, high obstacles, and even dodge paintballs was incredible. What makes this event truly special is knowing that every step helps protect South Africa’s rhinos.

The support from Protrack and the community ensures that this challenge continues to grow, bringing together adventurers who want to push their limits while contributing to a vital cause.”
