Mohale wins sports volunteer of the year

Moses Mohale has been named Volunteer of the Year at the Limpopo Sports Awards, honoured for his long-standing contribution to sport.

TZANEEN – Moses Mohale of Nkowankowa has been named volunteer of the year at the Limpopo Sports Awards, held in Polokwane on January 24.

Widely regarded as a leading figure in sport within the Greater Tzaneen Municipality (GTM), he has been involved in a wide range of sporting codes, including athletics, long-distance running, soccer, and indigenous games.

The prestigious award recognises Mohale’s unwavering commitment, selfless service, and outstanding leadership in the development of sport at local, district, provincial, and national levels.

As mathematics teacher at Mavhumba Primary School in Dan village, Mohale has served the sporting community in numerous capacities. His roles include school sports secretary for Ritavi, Mopani West District chairperson, national president of Khokho School Sports, chairperson of Mopani Masters Football, secretary of the GTM Sports Confederation, and South African Football Association (Safa) match commissioner.

Mohale also represented South Africa at the inaugural Khokho World Cup in India, where both the men’s and women’s teams returned home with bronze medals.

Limpopo Sports, Arts and Culture MEC Jerry Maseko described the recognition as well-deserved and said it should serve as an inspiration to volunteers across Limpopo and the country.

Nkowankowa Athletics Club also praised Mohale, describing him as a pillar of the local sporting community.

“Year after year, he brings energy, professionalism, and excitement to our events, making every race unforgettable for athletes and spectators alike,” the club said.

Mohale received the baobab gold trophy along with a cash prize.
