Bergmann brags with Tzaneen men’s tennis title
The Tzaneen Tennis Club hosted its club championship on Saturday, August 26.
In the women’s final, Zoë Venter played against Natasha Bouwer, with Venter winning with 6-1 and 6-3. “I feel proud being the winner of the match. It was a very competitive and stressful match and there are some things that I need to improve on such as my serve,” said Venter. Bouwer said she enjoyed the match against Venter.
“Zoë is a very consistent player, so we had some nice long rallies. I think I should focus on improving my own consistency, giving myself a larger margin of error, and minimising unforced errors,” she said. In the men’s final, Reenen Bergmann played against JP Botha, with Bergmann winning the match by 6-1 and 6-2.

“The game against JP was tough as always, I had to play my best to beat him,” Bergmann told the Herald. I started boxing in January last year and it has helped me with my fitness. I now move much faster on the court. Our players in Tzaneen need more tournament exposure but because Tzaneen is far from Pretoria or Johannesburg, it is not always possible.
Tennis has been a passion of mine since I was a small boy. Thank you to all the players who participated in the championship, it was great,” he said. In the doubles final, Bergmann and Ettienne van Wyngaard took on Botha and Marais Botha, with Botha winning by 6-4 and 7-5. “We had a good hard game with both teams fighting until the end. Finishing our points can always improve,” said Botha.
