Giyani teams beaten on their own turf

Winners Park FC fans are probably not mistaken if they think there is no strong soccer team in Giyani after beating the top two Giyani teams on their turf recently.

Last week, Winners Park beat Emanuel FC 2-1 on their home ground, Malamulele Stadium. This caused Emanuel FC to lose their top spot in the league and move down to the second position. If that was not enough to ruin the day for Giyani soccer fans, this week Winners Park beat Giyani Happy Boys 3-0, also on their home ground. What is even more perplexing is the fact that Winners Park is not exactly doing great in the league. They were just two spots from the bottom of the league when they beat Emanuel FC last week.

That has helped them to move one spot up to position seven, above Giyani Happy Boys in position eight. The visitors’ early goal in the second minute into the match against the Happy Boys on Saturday put too much pressure on the home team. With Happy Boys supporters already frustrated by their team’s constant losses in the league, Saturday’s game was their only chance to redeem themselves. Unfortunately, things did not go their way; they sunk even further down to the bottom of the league.

Frustrated Happy Boys supporters were seen demanding the goalkeeper be replaced following Winners Park’s second goal. Even though it took a little while to happen, it seemed like their request was heard because the goalkeeper was replaced shortly afterward. But this decision was taken rather late. The damage was done, and the visitors were in charge of the game. There was no way to unseat them.

Having already lost their chances of equalising, all that was left for the Happy Boys was a consolation goal. However, that too did not materialise as Winners Park scored a third goal to make it 3-0 against the Happy Boys. Although the referee committed numerous errors in the game, the Giyani Happy Boys’ performance did not match that of a team that finished second last season. Their level of play in the league has drastically declined to that of an amateur team.
