Bokhalva netball team needs support

Bokhalva Netball Club has proved that by creating a constructive environment for children, success is obtainable.

This competitive team from Ward 14 in Moshate village in Ga-Sekororo was established in 2015 to support the development of skills for girls of 12 years and older to encourage positive involvement in society to prevent substance abuse and teen pregnancy. “The team also gives educational support to players and the community at large. We field a competitive team that enjoys success locally, as well as in regional and provincial leagues,” said Taola Shai, head coach of Bokhalva. The team participates in the Limpopo Provincial League, the Mopani District League as well as Maruleng Local Netball League.

“We are currently playing in the provincial league and are in third place on the log,” Shai said. He said the team also has produced four players in the National Spar Tournament from 2021 to 2023 and four players who were selected to represent Mopani in the U/19 National Spar Tournament this year. The team comprises both senior and u/15 teams and has 27 registered players and seven technical teams.

Some of their achievements include being champions of the Maruleng Local Municipality Netball League in 2019, third in the Mopani District League in 2021, and champions of Maruleng Municipality Mayor’s Tournament in 2022.

The team was third in the Limpopo Provincial League Section C, champions of the Maruleng Local Netball League, third in the Mopani District Twizza Games, and third in the Nkowankowa Community Games. They were the champions of the Maruleng Local Netball League U/15, and champions of the Dukes Tournament, all in 2022.

They were also the champions of the Maruleng Municipality Mayor’s Tournament, the Maruleng Local Netball League, and the Maruleng Local Netball League U/15 in 2023. This year, they were second in the Ritluka Easter Tournament, champions of the Maruleng Municipality Mayor’s Tournament, and the champions of the Sekororo Built It Annual Netball U/15 Tournament.

Shai is appealing to the community and businesspeople for donations for a netball court, netball kits, T-shirts, tracksuits, and netball shoes for both the senior teams and u/15s, as well as essential sports and training equipment. “We are currently struggling financially with no sponsorship, and it has been hard to travel across the province for tournaments with children who are mostly from backgrounds with no means of support.”

“A donation will enable us to thrive on the court, enhancing our skills and fostering camaraderie,” he said. “Together we can empower these young athletes to reach their full potential and achieve success both on and off the netball court. “Every donation, regardless of its size, is valued and will significantly impact our team. “Your generosity will provide our girls with the resources they need to excel in netball and foster a sense of unity and pride,” concluded Shai.
